6 Best Yoga Studios for Trauma in NYC:

Yoga studios for me have all become safe havens and calm eyes inside the storm which is NYC. I have personally tried all of these studios in some way, and I have really enjoyed them for different reasons! Most of them, because of their offerings, are really good for trauma and for healing in general. I describe all of the notable information I found at each studio.

Here I describe some of the yoga studios familiar to me, that I have found to be the best for healing personally. There may also be others out there that I didn’t mention, either because I didn’t know about them or because they weren’t as healing for me.

I describe my favorite offerings / services at these yoga studios and at yoga studios in general in more detail here.
  • SOUK- variety of services and amenities- Flatiron, Manhattan
SOUK has been a fantastic studio for me personally. They offer a variety of different types of yoga, workshops (some even towards mental health, anxiety, depression etc.), sound meditations, and their teachers are fantastic. Their classes do usually start at $30, which can be more expensive than other ones on this list. Workshops can also be higher than that. This studio is quite popular and can get very busy. It has a lot of amenities like showers, lockers etc. that other studios don’t have.

They are located at 12 W. 27th St in Flatiron, Manhattan.
  • World Yoga Center- affordable + cozy + communal- UWS, Manhattan
World Yoga Center (WYC) is a smaller, more cozy studio. They are located in one apartment which has been converted into a room used as a yoga studio. They do still offer a variety of options for yoga, including Restorative and Vinyasa Yoga, as well as some meditations, but not more extensive classes. They are on the cheaper side as their classes are between $23-25. The community here is very nice, with many of the teachers, students being very welcoming, making sure to know everyone’s name, include everyone, and be light-hearted and not take yoga so seriously.

They are located at 265 West 72nd Street on the Upper West Side, Manhattan.
  • NY Loves Yoga- affordable + nice environment- UWS, Manhattan
NY Loves Yoga is a nice studio that feels warm, is half underground but has a nice little back patio with nice decorations. They are located in one apartment which has been converted into a room used as a yoga studio. They offer a variety of options for yoga, including Restorative and Vinyasa Yoga, as well as some other offerings such as retreats, workshops, trainings, and singing bowls as well. They are on the cheaper side as their classes are usually $24.

They are located at 140 W 83rd St on the Upper West Side, Manhattan.
  • St. Marks Yoga- affordable + drop-in for $10- East Village, Manhattan
St. Marks Yoga offers only Vinyasa options, but their classes are usually only $10, which is very affordable compared to other studios in NYC! Because of the price, there are not as many regular students as other studios as there are many different students every class, as well as a lot of different teachers. They sometimes do offer other services.

They are located at 12 St. Mark’s Place in the East Village, Manhattan.
  • Spirit Lab Yoga- hot yoga + affordable + some drop-in for $12- Midtown, Manhattan
Spirit Lab Yoga is a nice space that specializes in hot yoga, but does also offer yin yoga (even in the heat). They do have community classes for $12, which is very cheap again, but their drop-in classes are usually $22. Their teachers are nice and friendly. They do not have many services beyond yoga.

They are located at 1017 6th Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan.
  • Sacred Space Astoria- variety of services + trauma-focused- Astoria, Queens
Sacred Space Astoria offers a variety of classes and services, with a trauma-focused centered approach. Their single classes are usually $25. They offer a lot of services like Reiki, readings, bodywork, and end-of-life, not just yoga, as well as trainings and workshops.

They are located at 29-05 21st Ave in Astoria, Queens.
